Future of ecosystems

20. 9. 2025

Vyšehradská 51, Prague 2

TEDxPragueCountdown 2025: Future of Ecosystems, this year for the first time as a 2-day conference.

8 speakers and thematic workshops that will immerse us in the functioning and future of ecosystems – both natural ones and those that we humans carefully build. In a rapidly changing world, it is crucial to understand how these complex networks work and how they evolve. While natural ecosystems can self-regulate and adapt to change, artificial ecosystems – cities, technologies, financial systems or artificial intelligence – require a constant supply of our energy and attention to survive. What is our real role in the sustainability and development of these systems? Do ecosystems need humans? And how does finance, for example, which has a huge impact on our lives and the future of the entire planet, fit into this complex community?

Get ready for a series of thought-provoking lectures from visionaries, scientists, innovators and activists who will offer new perspectives on the ecosystems that surround us and that we so carefully build.

Join us 20. and 21 September and be part of an important conversation about our future and our role in it.

Soil biologist, ecologist and respected environmentalist with deep insight into science and politics. He is a lecturer at Charles University, a professor at the University of Antwerp for more than ten years and the author of numerous publications and popularization projects.

He has had a rich career in public administration and in the European Commission – from Director for Biodiversity to Director General of DG SANTE to Head of the EC Representation in Slovakia. A long-time president of the EKOFILM International Film Festival, an active popularizer of science and an expert in soil biology, he remains above all a scientist in body and soul – a specialist in soil mites, thanks to which he has travelled to many parts of the world.

Hana Sahulová Součková is a farmer from Semice in the Elbe region. Together with her parents, she grows, packs, and distributes more than 55 types of vegetables, herbs, and edible flowers. Second programme block – Economic-ecological ecosystems

Anna Kšírová is a physician highlighting the links between climate change and health and healthcare. She graduated from the 2nd Medical Faculty of Charles University in Prague, after graduation she completed a several-month internship at the paediatric HIV clinic in Pretoria, South Africa, and currently works at the anaesthesiology and resuscitation department of Jablonec nad Nisou Hospital. She is a co-founding member of the Doctors for Future Czech Republic initiative and is currently also a city councillor for the Green Party in Liberec.

David is co-founder and CEO of Myco, a startup that produces sustainable materials from fungal mycelium. Originally trained as a painter in Copenhagen, he discovered his passion for mushrooms during forest walks with his wife. What happens when artistic instinct meets fascination with nature? In David’s case, it led to the creation of plastic-free packaging made from mushroom mycelium and organic waste. What started as bathroom experiments has grown into an investor-backed company and David now promotes the beauty and commercial potential of mushrooms through talks, podcasts and award-winning competitions.

Kateřina Eklová is an expert in sustainable buildings and architecture. She co-founded Rethink Architecture, an organization that educates about sustainability in architecture and real estate. She is a lecturer and researcher at the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Czech Technical University and also lectures at the ARCHIP architecture college. She has worked as a developer in commercial and residential development in the Czech Republic and abroad. She has also been part of many non-profit projects such as ŠTUK, reSITE, Experience the City Differently and Open House Prague. Her vision is to transform the construction industry into a sustainable one that contributes to people and the environment.

Zak Avery is a cultural innovator and community builder dedicated to creating spaces for connection, transformation and social impact. He co-founded Medicine Festival, the UK’s largest alcohol-free festival that combines music, ceremony and cultural exchange while supporting Indigenous communities around the world. He also serves as Director of Community and Culture at &Soul, an intentional community that reimagines how urban life can foster creativity, wellbeing and belonging, and is the founder of Menspedition, a transformative men’s pilgrimage and initiation ritual. Early in his career, Zak championed sustainable fashion through Ethically Woven and The Garmhaus and co-founded Bohemia Place Markets, where he brings regenerative principles to urban commerce. In all his projects, he is guided by a vision of community as medicine and a belief that bold and imaginative spaces can inspire a better way of life.

Choice of three different workshops

Come along with us as we explore Prague’s streets and consider city life from a variety of angles. Through our personal experiences and group reflection, we can learn about public spaces, vulnerable groups, climate change, and even ourselves. Kateřina Eklová, an expert in sustainable architecture, and Kateřina Kuchtová, an expert in inclusive, participatory urban planning, will be our guides through exploring the city.

Step away from the urban rush and immerse yourself in a contemplative forest bathing experience right in the heart of the city. This mindful practice, inspired by the Japanese tradition of shinrin-yoku, invites you to slow down and connect deeply with the urban nature that surrounds us – from the resilient trees lining our streets to the quiet green spaces tucked between buildings. Through guided breathing exercises, sensory meditations, and moments of stillness, you’ll learn to perceive the city’s natural rhythms.

In just two hours, you’ll get a clear and practical introduction to the circular economy-a way of designing, producing, and consuming that’s smarter, cleaner, and way more exciting than “business as usual.” You’ll explore what circularity means (spoiler: it’s not just recycling), learn from inspiring real-life case studies, and work hands-on to apply circular thinking to your own context-be it your job, your city, or your daily habits.

Questions and inspiration for the team: future@tedxpraguecountdown.cz

Systém mravenčích kolonií podpírají úkony každého jednoho člena společenství a ukazuje nám, že i zdánlivě nepatrné činy jednotlivce mohou ovlivnit fungování celku.

Přijďte si rozšířit obzory a poslechnout názory odborníků, průkopníků a inovátorů z mnoha odvětví.

Má vlastní soustavu tepelných čerpadel – 177 zemních vrtů o hloubce 150 metrů a celkové délce přes 26 kilometrů tvoří největší soustavu geotermálních čerpadel v Česku.
